Nejmeh defeated Safa 3-1 in the Lebanese Cup, topping their group and setting up a fiery quarter-final meeting with Ahed.Nejmeh continued their campaign to defend the Lebanese FA Cup title, reaching the quarter-finals with a perfect record (9 out of 9 points) after beating resilient Safa 3-1 (0-2 at halftime) in the match held yesterday, Sunday, at President Fouad Chehab Stadium in Jounieh.Overall the match was of average quality, with both teams exchanging control, attacks and missed chances. Nejmeh, however, held the upper hand as the duo Ali Al-Fadl and captain Qassem Al-Zein shone, scoring in the 10th and 31st minutes — goals that allowed the team to play with calm nerves — while Safa launched sporadic but dangerous attacks, particularly from Sloum and Mokhtar.In the second half Safa enjoyed the better of play, coming alive and breaching Nejmeh’s defense several times, and they pulled one back through Palestinian Adnan Sloum in the 72nd minute. They created numerous chances before and after the goal but failed to capitalize, unlucky in front of goal. The substitutions made by Nejmeh’s Tunisian coach, however, helped his side re-enter the match with well-planned attacks, one of which produced the decisive goal by Lasso in the 90+4 minute. The match ended in a deserved 3-1 victory for Nejmeh, who advance to the quarter-finals alongside Tripoli, who beat Racing 2-0.
