Arabic version: إلغاء نزال ليام ويلسون بعد إخفاق فولتون في الوزن

According to ABC News, Australian boxer Liam Wilson’s scheduled world title eliminator against American Stephen Fulton has been cancelled after Fulton failed to make weight for the Tim Tszyu versus Errol Spence Jr card in Sydney.

Fulton weighed almost 63.5kg on Saturday, nearly 4.5kg above the originally agreed weight. The pair had been due to meet at the super-featherweight limit of 59kg, before officials raised the limit to 60.3kg on Friday for the feature bout.

Wilson agreed to the late adjustment as he sought another world title opportunity against Fulton, a former unified super-bantamweight world champion and ex-WBC featherweight belt holder. Wilson’s manager, Glenn Jennings, said the situation “feels like a stitch-up” and called it “a blight on the sport”.

Undefeated Olympian Paulo Aokuso will move onto the main card to fight Dominican Republic boxer Luis Tejeda in a light-heavyweight bout. Wilson’s cancellation is the second co-main event loss of the week after Jermall Charlo was denied a visa to face Koen Mazoudier.

The Tim Tszyu fight is scheduled to begin from about 1:30pm AEST on Sunday.
