In the presence of International President Brian Sheehan (USA), Immediate Past President Douglas X. Alexander (USA), Past International President Barry Palmer (Australia), Past International President and Chairperson of Campaign 100 Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada (Japan), and – of course – District Governor Vin Pang of District 201N5, the Lions Clubs of Australia celebrated their 75th anniversary since the inauguration of the first Lions Club in Australia in Lismore, NSW in September 1947. The celebratory dinner took place at the Wenty Leagues Club in Wentworthville on 26 September 2022.
The event, which was attended by hundreds of Lions members mainly from the Sydney District of 201N5 such as the Lions Club of Canterbury-Bankstown, The Lions Club of Parramatta, Lions Club of Blacktown City, Lions Club of Manly, Lions Club of Bondi, and many more, included many speeches, award presentations, and artistic performances. Speeches mainly revolved around the work of the Lions Clubs in Australia and worldwide. Notably, Immediate Past International President Douglas X. Alexander mentioned his visit to Lebanon a few days ago where he had the chance to talk to many people who now occupy the 12,000 homes that have been fixed after the Beirut Port Explosion in August 2020. He also stressed about the two main things he heard about Lions repetitively, which are kindness and quality work.
During the event, there were silent and live auctions as well as raffle draws which allowed the event organisers to raise $100,000 AUD. This amount was donated to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to allow Lions Clubs to keep doing quality service activities worldwide.
Oz Arab Media was present at the event and wished the Australian Lions a Happy 75th Anniversary and many more successful years of service to the community ahead.
