Every year around this time, the Lions Clubs change the District Governor (DG) and install a new cabinet to guide the Lions Clubs of the district for the coming year as per the policies of the Lions Clubs International. On Saturday, 16 July 2022, Past District Governor (PDG) Sunil Amaratunga handed over the mantle of leadership to DG Vin Pang. The handover ceremony, which took place at Bankstown Sports Club and was attended by more than 170 Lions, included a variety of speeches, award ceremonies, and fellowship.

With more than 70 active clubs and over 1,500 Lions members in the district, the Lions Clubs have served over 135,000 people in the financial year 2021-2022. Notably, each club has the autonomy to choose which causes to work for, including the international global causes which include hunger, diabetes, vision, environment, and many more.

This financial year in District 201N5 which encompasses Sydney and the Norfolk Islands, the Lions Clubs have played a significant role in relieving the impacts of COVID and the floods which ravaged parts of Queensland and New South Wales. It is also important to note that members of Lions pay annual membership fees so that all the funds raised during events are wholly used for the designated causes, and none of the money is used to pay administrative fees.

During the Changeover Ceremony, PDG Sunil Amaratunga presented an array of local and international awards and certificates to Lions from various clubs in recognition of their continued service and contributions to the Lions. This was followed by DG Vin Pang swearing the Lions Governor’s oath preceding a short speech highlighting some of the goals that the new governor hopes to achieve during his tenure. It is also worth mentioning that in September 2022, the Lions Clubs in Australia will be celebrating their 75th anniversary in the country.
