According to ABC News, Brisbane made a rapid start against Port Adelaide at the Gabba in AFL round 20, kicking the first three goals of the afternoon. The live scoreboard showed the Lions at 3.3 (21) to the Power’s 1.2 (8).

Will Ashcroft opened the scoring after positioning himself at the front of a pack and dribbling through a goal from about 25 metres on a slight angle. Kai Lohmann then added a second set-shot goal as Brisbane took early control.

The Lions had five inside-50 entries to Port Adelaide’s three in the opening minutes and generated three scores from those entries. Charlie Cameron also hit the post from an earlier set shot.

Zac Bailey added Brisbane’s third goal from close range after Cam Rayner was crunched in a marking contest. Rayner was back on his feet, while Bailey had seven early disposals, behind only Ashcroft’s game-high eight touches at that stage.

Brisbane entered the match seeking to strengthen its top-four position. The dual reigning premiers had won six consecutive matches after earlier losses to GWS and Fremantle, defeating Gold Coast, Richmond, Sydney, Geelong, Essendon and West Coast in that run.

Port Adelaide made three changes, bringing in Jason Horne-Francis, Mitch Georgiades and Jack Watkins for Joe Richards, Jacob Wehr and Jackson Mead. Later on Sunday, North Melbourne was scheduled to host St Kilda at Docklands Stadium, with both teams pursuing wildcard spots.
