Britain’s Lone’ er Kavanagh claimed the biggest win of his career as he upset former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno in Mexico City. Kavanagh won by unanimous decision with scores of 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47, marking a remarkable upset given he was unranked before the fight.

According to BBC News, Kavanagh took the fight against Moreno on just three weeks’ notice after his original opponent, Asu Almabayev, withdrew due to injury. The 26-year-old fighter came into the match following the first defeat of his 11-fight career against Charles Johnson in August but showcased a mature performance throughout.

Kavanagh effectively utilized leg kicks to keep Moreno at bay, further damaging him with a flurry of punches in the second round. Despite Moreno’s attempts to rally in the third round, Kavanagh regained control and successfully defended against several takedown attempts. This victory marks the tenth win in Kavanagh’s 11-fight career, while Moreno faced his fourth defeat in the last six fights, raising questions about his future in the division.
