The streets of Earlwood are set to come alive with mediterranean magic with the Love Earlwood – Meet you at the Plateia Festival this month, its second year bringing an expanded event footprint and an extra hour of operations.
This free event will run from 11am-5pm on Saturday 19 September and is a celebration of the Greek, Italian and Mediterranean communities that have helped shape Earlwood and the surrounding area for generations.
With the hilarious James Liotta at the helm as MC, the festival has quickly become one of the City’s most cherished cultural celebrations.
“Love Earlwood is where our community’s Mediterranean heritage shines,” Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said.
“Last year’s festival brought more than 10,000 people to Clarke Street, and with this year’s larger precinct and an extra hour of operations, we’re excited to welcome even more families, visitors and food lovers to experience everything that makes Earlwood special.”
Due to the popularity of the event in 2025, this year will see stalls and activations extending along Clarke Street all the way to the corner of Lewins Street.
The trading hours have also been extended by an extra hour, giving visitors more time in the evening to explore the huge open-air marketplace.
There’ll be traditional Greek, Italian and Mediterranean dishes like grilled souvlaki, Naples-inspired pizza and gnocchi and warm empanadas, and dessert favourites including cannoli, loukoumades, churros and tiramisu.
Festival-goers can also enjoy live cultural performances, roaming performers, a revved-up car show, family-friendly entertainment and new zones dedicated to local businesses, community groups and cultural showcases.
Love Earlwood – Meet You at the Plateia Festival is proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW.
Council was successful in receiving $350,000 under the program to deliver the festival over three years.
Member for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis said the NSW Government’s ongoing support ensures the festival continues to grow as a major community event.
“Love Earlwood is a wonderful celebration of everything our community has to offer, bringing together local businesses, families, performers, school communities and visitors in the heart of Earlwood,” Ms Cotsis said.
“The Minns Labor Government is proud to support this much-loved event and invest in the Earlwood community to help create opportunities for local businesses, boost economic activity and showcase the incredible diversity that makes Earlwood such a special place to live.
