According to BBC News, Paris St-Germain manager Luis Enrique has shaped this season around the challenge of winning again after success. The back-to-back European champions are seeking a third consecutive Champions League title and a third straight league triumph. PSG travel to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium on Wednesday sixth in Ligue 1, having recorded three wins, two draws and one defeat, but there is no panic at the club after a similarly slow start last season.
Luis Enrique has signed a contract until 2030, while Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, Willian Pacho, Lucas Beraldo and Senny Mayulu have also agreed new deals. The continuity extends to his staff: assistant Joaquin Valdes has worked with him since Barcelona B, while Rafel Pol remains responsible for strategy and acts as second in command. Training methods have changed little in three years, with a pitch-side screen used for corrections and two cranes helping coaches observe sessions from above.
Squad depth has given the coach greater scope to rotate players. Ousmane Dembele was absent from the squad for Saturday’s win over Le Mans, while Lucas Digne had previously been left out. Against Le Mans, Luis Enrique started eight players who would not begin bigger matches, then introduced four established stars with the game level. PSG have renewed their attack following the departures of Gonzalo Ramos, Bradley Barcola and Lee Kang-in, with Mika Godts and Ferran Torres identified as players seeking to establish themselves at the highest level.
The club has also placed emphasis on its academy. Warren Zaire-Emery, Mayulu, Quentin Ndjantou and Ibrahim Mbaye all played in the Champions League last season. PSG’s campus, officially opened in November 2024 after a 350m-euro investment, brings professional teams, men’s and women’s academies and the school onto one site. During the recent international break, only four first-team players stayed at the club, while 16 academy players joined national teams; Luis Enrique worked with the remaining youngsters during the three-week period.
