Arabic version: ماجا شوالينسكا تصدم كالينسكايا لتصل إلى نصف نهائي بطولة فرنسا المفتوحة
Maja Chwalinska has made headlines at the French Open 2026 by defeating Anna Kalinskaya to reach the semi-finals, marking a remarkable achievement in her tennis career. The Polish player, ranked 114th in the world, stunned the 22nd seed with a score of 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, becoming only the second qualifier to reach the women’s singles semi-finals at Roland Garros after Nadia Podoroska in 2020.
According to BBC News, Chwalinska’s journey to this stage is particularly inspiring, given her struggles with mental health that led her to take a break from the sport. After her first-round exit at Wimbledon five years ago, she faced significant challenges but has since returned to the court with renewed determination.
Chwalinska’s impressive run includes victories over two seeded players and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, showcasing her growth and resilience. She expressed her surprise at reaching this level, stating that her initial goal was simply to qualify for the tournament.
Next, Chwalinska will face Diana Shnaider, who recently upset world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals. Regardless of the outcome, Chwalinska’s performance has already earned her a substantial prize of £647,700, more than doubling her career earnings in just ten days. Her success in Paris has also positioned her to potentially break into the top 30 of the world rankings, a significant milestone in her career.
