According to BBC News, Malawi beat Algeria 3-1 in Rabat to reach the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final on their tournament debut. The Scorchers, the lowest-ranked side playing in Morocco, will face Cameroon in Sunday’s final at 19:00 GMT.

The Chawinga sisters shared all three Malawi goals in a frantic semi-final marked by two first-half red cards following VAR interventions. Algeria defender Morgane Belkhiter was sent off for denying Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga a goalscoring opportunity before Tabitha opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with an overhead kick that struck the crossbar, bounced and spun back over the line.

Temwa Chawinga made it 2-0 in first-half added time after rounding Algeria goalkeeper Chloe N’Gazi. Malawi then lost Rose Kadzere to a red card after a VAR review for a studs-up lunge on Marine Dafeur. Algeria reduced the deficit on the hour when Ikram Adjabi volleyed home after Malawi failed to deal with Dafeur’s free-kick.

Tabitha Chawinga restored Malawi’s two-goal advantage late on, driving into the penalty area and side-footing in her second goal. Malawi have already beaten Nigeria and Ghana during the competition and secured a place at next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup in Brazil by reaching the last four. The sisters have scored eight of the team’s 12 tournament goals, with Temwa netting five and Tabitha three.
