According to ABC News, a 48-year-old patient has been charged after allegedly pouring accelerant on three patients and setting one man alight at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to the hospital about 10:45pm on Tuesday following reports of a concern for welfare. NSW Police said two men, aged 54 and 63, and a 64-year-old woman were allegedly doused in accelerant. Hospital staff extinguished the fire after the 54-year-old man was allegedly set alight.

The 54-year-old sustained minor burns and was kept for observation as a precaution. He remains stable. The other man and woman were treated for minor injuries and also remain in a stable condition.

The accused was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, common assault, and two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to a person with intent. He is scheduled to face Bail Division Court on Thursday.

A South Eastern Sydney Local Health District spokesperson said staff responded quickly, notified police and were providing support and care to those affected. The district said there was no ongoing risk to patients or staff. NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said he had requested a review of the “very concerning and serious” incident.
