According to ABC News, a 44-year-old man has been charged after allegedly damaging windows and glass doors at Tasmania’s Parliament House in Hobart, as well as glass panels at the Wrest Point Convention and Entertainment Centre.
Police were called to Parliament House at about 11.20pm on Saturday after 10 windows and two glass doors were damaged, including the building’s front door. Tasmania Police said no entry was gained to the parliament building. Repairs to the damaged windows began on Sunday morning.
Police allege the Dover man was also involved in damage at the Wrest Point Convention and Entertainment Centre in Sandy Bay, Hobart, during the early hours of Monday. Twenty-six glass panels were allegedly broken at the venue.
Tasmania Police said significant repair and replacement costs were expected from both incidents. Following investigations, police obtained a warrant for the man’s arrest. He was located and arrested in Hobart on Tuesday, 6 October, before being taken to Hobart Police Station.
The man was charged with offences relating to the destruction of property and is due to next appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in January.
