Arabic version: توجيه اتهامات لرجل بسبب تهديدات بسلاح نونتشاكو في مكتب بيزلي
According to The Guardian, a 56-year-old Perth man has been charged after allegedly making threats while carrying nunchucks at the Victoria Park electorate office of Western Australian local government minister Hannah Beazley. Electoral staff called police after a disturbance on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they received reports that the man was making verbal threats and had an “improvised martial arts weapon” described as nunchucks. He was arrested nearby and taken into custody. On Thursday, he was charged with being armed in a way that may cause fear, making unlawful threats and cannabis possession. No one was injured, and he was refused bail to appear at Perth magistrates court.
Beazley was not at the office during the incident. She said two staff members were present and were “rattled” by what she called a “confronting situation”. The man allegedly wanted access to her, though she said his motivations were not known. She said he allegedly tried to lean through the security screen, while staff remained a safe distance away.
The incident followed an alleged attack outside federal independent MP Helen Haines’s Wangaratta electorate office in Victoria on Monday. Haines was hospitalised with severe injuries, and it was later revealed that she had lost both legs. Prime minister Anthony Albanese said threats and violence were “far too prevalent” and said political disputes should be settled at the ballot box.
