According to ABC News, a 38-year-old man will remain in custody after police allegedly seized a knife and saw following a dramatic arrest at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport on the NSW North Coast.

Police were called to the airport just after 9:30am on Monday after reports a man had forced entry into a restricted area. The ABC was told he tried several doors before entering the departures area.

Police allege Braden Hardy was searched at the airport and the knife and saw were found in his belongings. He was issued a move-on direction and left, but police allege he returned shortly afterwards and assaulted a male senior constable.

Video footage showed four officers struggling to place Mr Hardy into a police wagon as he protested. The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Mr Hardy was taken under police guard to Lismore Base Hospital for an assessment, then to Lismore Police Station. He was charged with six offences, including assaulting a police officer, failing to comply with a direction and custody of a knife in a public place. Bail was not applied for and was formally refused. The matter is due before Ballina Local Court on Thursday.
