On behalf of the Maronite Catholic Society of Australia and under the patronage of His Grace Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, the President, Mr. John Chedid, and the Board extend their heartfelt congratulations to Army General Joseph Aoun on his election as President of the Republic of Lebanon.

After two years without a president, this is a truly historic and momentous occasion for Lebanon and Lebanese communities worldwide. The election of General Aoun marks a renewed hope for stability and progress. His distinguished military service and unwavering commitment to the sovereignty and well-being of the Lebanese people have proven his capability to lead during challenging times.

It was refreshing and inspiring to hear President Aoun’s inaugural speech, emphasizing his dedication to governing for all Lebanese people, safeguarding national borders, establishing respectful relationships with neighboring countries, addressing the return of Syrian refugees, and ensuring the authority of one national institution to protect Lebanon’s sovereignty.

The Australian Lebanese community is optimistic that under his leadership, with a united and capable cabinet and parliament working for the common good, Lebanon can look forward to a future of peace, prosperity, and renewed opportunities. We share his vision of creating a nation where the youth no longer feel compelled to seek opportunities abroad, but instead, build their futures at home in Lebanon.

As we move forward, we must unite in our efforts to support Lebanon, the jewel of the Middle East, in realizing its potential and securing a bright future of freedom, stability, and prosperity for generations to come.
