According to BBC News, Rangers manager Derek McInnes has called for improved performances despite guiding his side into the League Cup final with a late 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Hampden Park.
Ryan Naderi tapped in the decisive goal in the 83rd minute after Rangers had dominated possession and chances. The Ibrox side recorded 74% possession and 25 shots, although only five were on target before Naderi scored.
“The job was to get the team and the club into a cup final and it’s job done by hook or by crook,” McInnes told BBC Scotland. “The stats will show possession, 25 shots, but to only have five shots on target isn’t good enough.”
Rangers are now unbeaten in 11 matches and have kept seven clean sheets during that run. McInnes said there was an obligation for the squad to improve as it seeks to keep winning before the final, where Hearts or Hibernian will provide the opposition in December.
Naderi, who arrived from the German third tier in February, has scored eight goals this season, including in a 1-0 league victory at Celtic Park. McInnes said the forward thrives on service and urged Rangers to deliver more quality balls into the box. The manager added that reaching Hampden and competing for silverware must become the club’s regular standard.
