A security breach has briefly grounded domestic flights at Melbourne Airport, sparking long queues for travellers.

Screening was paused at the Qantas domestic terminal on Monday morning after a passenger passed through without being checked properly.

Footage of the terminal showed hundreds of people queuing in front of the screening gate.

The passenger was eventually found, allowing flights to take off and screening to resume about 6.50am.

Several Qantas flights out of Melbourne have been cancelled but delays appear to be minimal.

In October, an unscreened Qantas passenger passed through the security gates, forcing others to evacuate the area before being re-screened.

The airline later apologised for the disruption.

Qantas has been contacted for comment.
