Arabic version: شرطة العاصمة تعيد فحص تسجيلات المراقبة في قضية مقتل جيل داندو
According to BBC News, the Metropolitan Police will re-examine CCTV footage connected to the unsolved murder of BBC presenter and journalist Jill Dando. Dando was shot dead with a single bullet on the doorstep of her Fulham home in April 1999.
The footage comes from Putney Bridge train station and includes an unidentified man seen sprinting near the scene of the shooting 20 minutes after the event. The Met said advances in CCTV enhancement technology had given investigators an opportunity to revisit the original material.
Dando, a television presenter and newsreader, was 37 when she died on the doorstep of her home on Gowan Avenue. Her killing led to one of the biggest and most high-profile murder investigations in British history, but the case remains unsolved 27 years later.
A Met spokesperson said the investigation has been subject to numerous reviews since Dando’s death, seeking to establish whether developments in technology and forensics could help progress matters. Police said the latest examination forms part of ongoing inquiries and should not be interpreted as a significant new line of inquiry or as the opening of a new investigation.
Barry George, a local man, was convicted of Dando’s murder and spent eight years in prison before he was acquitted at a retrial in 2008. The case was also the subject of the 2023 Netflix documentary Who Killed Jill Dando?.
