NSW Labor has called on the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads to immediately release the Independent Panel’s long overdue and delayed Regional Road Transfer and NSW Road Classification Report.

NSW Labor asked questions during the recent budget estimates hearing with supplementary answers provided by the Government revealing that the Independent Panel delivered the report on 8 November 2022.

The report originally expected to be delivered in July 2021 is now over 15 months late and has left regional Councils all across the state questioning the Liberal Nationals ability to deliver their 2019 signature election commitment.

Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison:

“The Minister’s slow action on the reclassification of regional roads is tantamount to a broken promise, which will come at the cost of rural and regional economies.

“The National and Liberal Government continue to take rural and regional NSW for granted, and this is yet another example of regional NSW being put on the go-slow.

“It’s an absolutely disgrace that the Liberal National Government continues to prolong the agony for cash strapped regional councils who are desperate for outcomes.

“Quite frankly, far more should have already been done in terms of reclassification.

“What is the Minister hiding? Will we see the final report before Christmas, who knows?

“This long-awaited report should have been released as soon as the Minister received it.”
