Arabic version: سلسلة حفلات ميتسكي الفريدة تنعش مدرسة هوليوود الثانوية
Mitski captivated audiences during a five-night residency at Hollywood High School’s auditorium, performing songs from her new album, “Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.” The venue, transformed with a cozy living room set and projections of a swaying ocean, provided an intimate atmosphere that resonated with the emotional themes of her music.
According to The Guardian, Mitski playfully encouraged attendees to embrace their emotions, stating, “It’s dark in here – you can cry.” The concert drew a diverse crowd, including many high school students, some attending Hollywood High School itself.
The residency was designed to evoke the raw connection of DIY and punk shows, a nostalgic experience for Mitski. She expressed her desire to recreate the intimate atmosphere of her early performances. The school even organized an attendance contest, incentivizing students to miss no classes for two weeks to win tickets to the concert.
Fans traveled from various locations to attend, with high school senior Sophia Barrios sharing her excitement about Mitski’s music and its personal resonance. The concert also served a charitable purpose, with Mitski pledging to donate $2 from every ticket to a local youth music education non-profit, further benefiting the school community.
For many, the concert was a nostalgic return to their own high school days. Jessica Torres Vicente, who returned to her alma mater for the first time in 12 years, remarked on the unchanged atmosphere, creating a unique blend of nostalgia and celebration. Mitski’s performance, marked by her signature poise and immersive visuals, left a lasting impact on all who attended.
