Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of its staff member, Moses Chot Puok, a long-serving gateman at the MSF hospital in Lankien, Jonglei State.
In an official statement, the international medical humanitarian organisation confirmed that Mr Puok was shot and killed in Lankien on 7 February 2026.
“Moses tragically passed away after being shot in Lankien,” MSF said. “He had returned to his home, believing it to be a safe place for himself and his family.”
MSF explained that the announcement of his death had been delayed because its teams were only recently able to establish contact with his relatives.
Mr Puok had dedicated nearly two decades of service to MSF, having worked with the organisation since 2007. Over the years, he became known among colleagues as a calm, committed and dependable member of the team.
“Moses had been working with MSF since 2007, and throughout his years of service he was known as a calm, committed, and dedicated colleague,” the organisation said.
MSF extended its condolences to Mr Puok’s loved ones, describing his death as a profound loss to his family, friends, colleagues and the wider community he served.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his children, family, friends, and colleagues during this very difficult time,” the statement concluded.
