A Perth teenager has had his charges upgraded to murder following the death of a 30-year-old pregnant mother last week.
Diane Miller suffered a heart attack after a concrete block was thrown through the open window of her car at the Waterford shopping centre in Karawara 10 days ago.
Passers-by spent 20 minutes trying to resuscitate Ms Miller in the car park after she went into cardiac arrest.
She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, and spent several days in intensive care. She died in hospital late last Thursday, after her life support was turned off.
The 30-year-old Noongar woman was five months pregnant and also had an eight-month-old son.
Ms Miller’s unborn baby died with her.
A 17-year-old boy appeared in Perth’s Children’s Court last Wednesday charged with grievous bodily harm.
However in a statement on Thursday, Western Australia Police Force advised that his charge had been upgraded to murder.
“The 17-year-old male from Kensington… is due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Friday 9 December 2022,” it said.
WA homicide detectives took over the investigation into Ms Miller’s assault after her death, flagging that charges might be upgraded.
Police earlier alleged the attack on Ms Miller came after an argument involving a group of teenagers and Ms Miller’s partner, who was driving the family car.
The parties are not believed to have been known to each other.
