According to ABC News, Queensland recorded 277,411 crime victims in 2025, more than 12,000 fewer than the 289,449 recorded in 2024. The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures represent a drop of around 4 per cent and are the first annual statistics covering a full year since the state government’s adult crime, adult time policy was legislated in late 2024.

Premier David Crisafulli had tied his job to reducing victim numbers below the 2023 ABS figure of 289,657 by the end of his first term, later qualifying that target as being per capita. Attorney-General Deb Frecklington called the data “green shoots”, saying every victim was one too many but the figures gave the government a message to continue its approach.

Bond University Associate Professor of Criminology Terry Goldsworthy said crime had largely been declining since 2024, including in the final 10 months of the previous Labor government. He said he was confident the adult crime, adult time laws had had little impact and that, anecdotally, youth offenders committing serious crimes were not receiving substantially more serious outcomes.

Robbery and burglary posted the largest reductions, falling 13 per cent and 12 per cent respectively, continuing decreases seen since 2023. Assault, sexual assault and motor vehicle theft recorded marginal falls. Sexual assault victims declined 2 per cent to just over 9,000 after a 32-year high in 2024, while the victimisation rate fell from 167 to 162 people per 100,000.

There were 90 homicide victims in 2025, down from 92 the year before, with just under a third linked to domestic and family violence. Youth Justice Minister Laura Gerber said a proposed breach bail, go to jail policy would further reduce victim numbers; it would require children and adults who commit serious crimes while on bail to face a mandatory 12 months in prison.
