According to ABC News, National Trust of South Australia chief executive Nicolette Di Lernia has resigned as a parliamentary inquiry into the organisation resumes today.

Ms Di Lernia is appearing before the inquiry after previously being unavailable to give evidence. The inquiry is examining the Trust, which owns more than 80 historically significant sites across South Australia.

The National Trust’s Council is expected to oversee operations while a replacement for Ms Di Lernia is sought through a national recruitment campaign.

The inquiry was established after opposition MLC Nicola Centofanti moved for it in June. The motion received unanimous cross-party support in the state’s upper house.

It followed months of disputes, including the standing down of the Trust’s Moonta branch leadership in February. Multiple sites in the region subsequently closed.
