Netflix Series ‘Adolescence’ Dominates Royal Television Society Awards

Netflix’s drama series ‘Adolescence’ achieved significant recognition at the 2026 Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards, winning four awards in total. The show’s 16-year-old star, Owen Cooper, was honored with both the breakthrough and supporting actor awards for his portrayal of Jamie Miller, a teenage murder suspect. According to BBC News, the judges praised Cooper as a “natural talent” with a performance described as one of “phenomenal skill” in a challenging role.

In addition to Cooper’s accolades, ‘Adolescence’ was recognized as the best limited series. The show’s co-star, Stephen Graham, who plays Jamie’s father, shared the best writer award with Jack Thorne in the drama category. The RTS Awards ceremony took place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by comedian Tom Allen.

The BBC emerged as the top network of the night, securing a total of 16 RTS wins. Notable victories included ‘Celebrity Traitors’ in the entertainment and reality category and ‘Things You Should Have Done’ for scripted comedy. The BBC’s drama ‘Blue Lights’ won the best drama award, while ‘EastEnders’ took home the soap and continuing drama award.

In the female leading actor category, Narges Rashidi won for her role in ‘Prisoner 951’, a factual drama about Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s detention by the Iranian state. Additionally, Bobby Schofield and Anna Friel from ‘Unforgivable’ received awards for leading actor in the male category and supporting actor in the female category, respectively. Sir Michael Palin was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for his contributions to television.
