People operating or working in licensed venues or events that sell or supply alcohol now have a new resource to ensure they comply with liquor laws, with the release of a series of short, educational animations.
Liquor & Gaming NSW has produced five instructional videos in various languages to simplify the licensing process, reduce barriers to information and direct users to other helpful online resources.
The animations explain who can serve alcohol, why a liquor licence is required, how to apply for and transfer a licence and liquor licence exemptions.
A video outlining how the public can have their say on a liquor licence application and who applicants need to notify has also been created.
All five videos have been recorded and captioned in English, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek and Vietnamese.
Liquor & Gaming NSW Director Regulatory Excellence Melanie Brown said the project builds on other targeted education and engagement campaigns to improve compliance and safety.
“NSW is home to thousands of licensed businesses, many of which are owned, operated and staffed by people from non-English speaking backgrounds,” Ms Brown said.
“Last year we engaged Multicultural NSW to translate our Self-Audit Checklists for On-premises and Packaged Liquor licences into Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese.
“This was complemented by L&GNSW inspectors visiting venues in local government areas with higher levels of culturally diverse communities to ensure operators know their responsibilities around compliance issues, such as signage, record keeping and Responsible Service of Alcohol training.
“These animations provide additional support by simplifying complex regulatory information in a short video format using simple language and images.
“The easy-to-follow steps answer frequently asked questions and improve business and community understanding on what is required to supply and sell alcohol safely and responsibly in NSW.”
This work forms part of the Hospitality and Racing Strategy 2026–28 to support harm minimisation and improve industry understanding through targeted communication and engagement.
