Sydney, Australia, 6 August 2026 – Fairfield City Council is excited to announce the completion of the new public mural at Nelson Street Car Park, a striking artwork that celebrates creativity, and the evolving identity of Fairfield City.
Commissioned by Council and created by Daniel Walton of Mountain Ash Creative, the large-scale mural has transformed the Nelson Street Car Park into a vibrant landmark, bringing colour, vibrancy, and a renewed sense of place to the heart of Fairfield City Centre.
Guided by community consultation, the mural reflects the voices of local residents, who shared the values, experiences, and themes they believe define Fairfield City and its diverse community.
As the artwork took shape, it became a point of connection for the community, with local children often stopping to watch the artist at work and residents regularly dropping by to offer encouragement, conversation, and even a coffee, reflecting the strong sense of community pride the project inspired.
Fairfield City Council Mayor Frank Carbone said the mural represents an exciting new chapter for public art in Fairfield City.
“Our City is incredibly rich in culture, traditions, and creativity. Art is woven into the stories and identities of the many communities that call our City home,” Mayor Carbone said.
“This mural is a wonderful way to celebrate that diversity, bringing those stories and artistic traditions into the public spotlight for everyone to enjoy.
“We are delighted by the positive response we have received from residents since the mural was completed. This mural was created to reflect our community, and it’s rewarding to see people connecting with the artwork and embracing it as a new feature of our city centre.”
At the centre of the mural stands a female figure, symbolising the women of Fairfield City and the vital role they play in nurturing families, strengthening communities, and shaping future generations.
Surrounding the figure are symbols inspired by community feedback, including a Middle Eastern Hassira rug representing gathering and hospitality, and flowers and butterflies symbolising hope, growth, and new beginnings. The mural also features silver dollar gums, reflecting the Australian landscape, and vibrant poppies that celebrate Fairfield City’s rich cultural diversity and inclusive community.
