Arabic version: نيوكاسل يسقط أمام مانشستر سيتي في الجولة الخامسة من كأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي
According to BBC News,
Newcastle United faced a harsh reality check as they were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round at St James’ Park. Despite taking an early lead through Harvey Barnes, the Magpies struggled to maintain their advantage and ultimately succumbed to a strong City side, featuring a double from Omar Marmoush.
Newcastle went into halftime level, but the second half proved challenging as they fell behind. Manager Eddie Howe acknowledged the lesson learned from the match, stating, “We just didn’t have the strength to make a dent in them.”
Manchester City, having made ten changes to their lineup, showcased their depth and quality, marking the first time they have beaten Newcastle four times in a single season. The defeat also ended Newcastle’s hopes of reaching Wembley for both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup this year.
Defender Kieran Trippier admitted that his team was outperformed, stating, “There’s no excuses today. We got beat by the better team.” The loss comes at a time when Newcastle is looking to secure a European spot, currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League.
Newcastle now shifts focus to their upcoming Champions League match against Barcelona, which Howe described as the “biggest game” in the club’s history. He emphasized the need for the team to elevate their performance to progress in the tournament.
