According to France 24, Niger’s capital returned to normal after an intense weekend during which a soldiers’ mutiny took over Niamey on August 29.

The mutiny was stopped by the Nigerien army alongside the Russian paramilitary Africa Corps, France 24 reported. Niger’s junta said it was back in control after the clashes in the capital.

On the following day, Algeria sent four fighter aircraft and two other military planes. France 24 described the move as cooperation with Nigeria that had recently resumed, calling the decision unexpected.

Algeria’s non-intervention doctrine has been part of its national identity since independence. France 24’s Harold Girard examined the purpose of Algeria’s decision.
