According to The Guardian, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds played a secret rooftop performance at Resident Records in Brighton before their advertised UK live show at Preston Park.

The balcony gig drew a packed crowd to Kensington Gardens in North Laine. Fans gathered on the street and on nearby shop roofs, with visitors reported from Germany, Norway and France, as well as discussion of people travelling from the US and east Asia for the Preston Park concert.

The performance was connected to a wider Nick Cave programme in Brighton, including a weekend takeover at the Duke of York’s Picturehouse, a pop-up shop with exclusive merchandise and a postbox for letters to The Red Hand Files. Train-station arrival announcements were also temporarily changed to feature Cave welcoming visitors to the city.

The rooftop set moved from 1985’s Train Long Suffering to a piano-led cover of T Rex’s Cosmic Dancer. Cave also sang Henry Lee with backing vocalist Janet Ramus and ended the performance with Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry.

After the set, police arrived as the crowd was dispersing towards Preston Park. Some fans also headed to seek remaining copies of an exclusive Cave picture disc, after the item had sold out and copies were listed on eBay.
