According to France 24, Nigeria’s drug enforcement agency has broken up an international cocaine trafficking ring that used the country as a transit point for shipments bound internationally. The report describes cocaine as a life-devastating narcotic and says the major bust led to arrests.
The case was featured in France 24’s Eye on Africa programme, issued on August 20, 2026. Nigeria, described in the report as the continent’s most populous country, had been used by the trafficking ring for internationally bound cocaine shipments.
The programme also examined political developments in Tunisia. Opponents of President Kaïs Saïed rallied in the latest of a series of pro-democracy demonstrations, which were sparked by growing political and economic discontent.
Eye on Africa additionally turned to Senegal’s city of Saint-Louis. It reported that traces of Saint-Louis’s role in the transatlantic slave trade are slowly disappearing as buildings connected to that era are lost to neglect and urban changes.
