According to Cnbc, Nike is expected to report fiscal first-quarter earnings after the bell Thursday while it works to restore sales growth and relevancy under Chief Executive Officer Elliott Hill. Analysts surveyed by LSEG expect earnings of 43 cents per share and revenue of $11.32 billion.
Nike previously said sales for the first two quarters of fiscal 2027 were expected to be “flattish.” Former Chief Financial Officer Matt Friend cited a sales slump in China, once a lucrative market for the company. David Denton, formerly of Pfizer, became Nike’s CFO in August.
The company said it expects gross margin in the first fiscal quarter to be slightly positive compared with the prior-year period. North America, Nike’s largest market, generated $4.83 billion in revenue last quarter, below the $4.88 billion expected by Wall Street, according to StreetAccount. Sales in China fell 12% in that quarter, and Hill said in June that Nike was “fully committed” to winning back the market.
For the current fiscal year, analysts expect total revenue of about $45.31 billion, according to LSEG, with second-quarter revenue projected at about $11.79 billion. Nike’s prior-quarter results were helped by a nearly $986 million tariff refund, which contributed 52 cents per share to earnings. Bank of America analysts downgraded the stock from neutral to underperform last week, citing rising risks, potential further weakness in China and sustained stock declines. Nike shares have fallen more than 40% this year. Executives will host a conference call with analysts at 5 p.m. ET.
