According to The Guardian, Lando Norris has agreed a multi-year McLaren contract running until at least 2030. The defending Formula One world champion, 26, said he hopes to spend his entire career with the team, which he joined for his F1 debut in 2019. His previous deal had been due to expire at the end of this year.

Norris said the extension was “the easiest decision” of his career and stressed that he had not considered leaving McLaren, though other teams had approached him. He described the Woking-based team as his home and “a second family”, citing relationships with its mechanics, engineers and other staff. The agreement was announced at a friends and families day at the McLaren Technology Centre, where the team confirmed Norris would receive one of the MCL39 cars he drove to the 2025 title.

The British driver joined McLaren’s young driver programme in 2017 before stepping up alongside Carlos Sainz two years later. He recorded his first podium at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, won his first grand prix in Miami in 2024 and has claimed 13 victories for McLaren. With 163 grands prix raced, he is the team’s longest-serving driver. McLaren won the constructors’ championship in 2024 and secured the drivers’ and constructors’ double last year as Norris took the title.

McLaren have faced difficulties under this season’s new regulations but returned to contention following upgrades, with Norris winning the last two races at Zandvoort and the Hungaroring. Team principal Andrea Stella said the new agreement provided continuity and reflected confidence in the team’s direction. Financial terms were not released; Norris said his pay was not close to the levels reported for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
