According to ABC News, one person was taken to hospital after a fire at the Helping Hand aged care facility on Buxton Street in North Adelaide.

The fire began in a ground-floor room. At 12:30pm on Sunday, 34 firefighters using 12 appliances attended the blaze.

MFS spokesperson Nicolle Bradley said emergency crews quickly located the fire and brought it under control within 15 minutes. Firefighters prevented it from spreading further through the facility.

MFS commander Phil Ross said several people called Triple Zero (000), and a number of people were evacuated. The person in the unit self-evacuated and was transported to hospital with a head laceration.

Mr Ross said smoke damage occurred on adjacent levels and estimated the damage at about $200,000. Investigators are examining the cause of the fire.
