North Korea has expressed its support for Iran’s selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader, according to Al Jazeera. The announcement was made through a statement from the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also condemned the recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that a spokesperson from the ministry emphasized respect for the Iranian people’s decision to elect Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli attack on February 28. The spokesperson characterized the actions of the US and Israel as illegal and detrimental to regional peace and stability.

In the wake of the ongoing conflict, North Korea condemned the military aggression, labeling it as “gangster-like conduct” that threatens the political system and territorial integrity of nations. The spokesperson called on the international community to reject such actions.

Simultaneously, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a test-firing of strategic cruise missiles from the country’s new naval destroyer, Choe Hyon. During this event, he reiterated the importance of maintaining a robust nuclear deterrent as a strategic priority for North Korea. This missile test marks the second launch from the destroyer, which Kim has previously described as part of the nation’s efforts to enhance its naval capabilities with nuclear armament.
