Arabic version: جامعة نوتردام توقف قبول طلاب التمريض لعام 2026
The University of Notre Dame Australia has announced that it will not take new students for its nursing program for another year, leaving many prospective students uncertain about their futures. According to ABC News, this decision follows the cancellation of new applications for the first semester of 2026.
Students who had hoped to enroll in the nursing program after taking health science units are now facing disappointment. One affected student expressed feelings of devastation, stating they felt as though they had “wasted a year of life” at the university.
In a letter to staff, the university explained that the Bachelor of Nursing program had been “oversubscribed in recent years,” prompting the need to rebalance enrollments within the accredited program’s capacity. The university emphasized its commitment to providing high-quality education and practical experiences for current students.
While current and graduating students in the Bachelor of Nursing program will not be affected, those wishing to transition from health sciences to nursing will be supported in exploring options at other universities in Western Australia or New South Wales. The National Tertiary Education Union has indicated that staff were previously left without direct explanations for the initial cancellation of new intakes, although the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council confirmed that the program is currently accredited, pending a review.
The university is working on developing an updated nursing program, aiming to maintain its focus on current students while preparing for a five-year re-accreditation cycle. Notre Dame expects to graduate more than 1,000 nursing students in 2026 and 2027, ready to join the health workforce.
