According to Cnbc, Novo shares fell after the drugmaker presented a long-term strategy intended to revive growth in the anti-obesity market. Copenhagen-listed shares closed 7.7% lower on Monday, their worst day since February, as investors remained concerned about competition and the company’s prospects after Wegovy.

Novo said it aims to launch more than five drugs with “multi-blockbuster” potential by 2030 and generate more than 150 billion Danish kroner ($23 billion) in risk-adjusted pipeline sales by 2035, including current assets. It expects revenue growth from 2026 to 2030 to be in line with industry peers including Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca, Amgen, Biogen, Merck, AbbVie and Novartis.

CEO Mike Doustdar told investors at Novo’s Capital Markets Day in London that semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic, will lose key patent exclusivity starting early next decade. The U.S. semaglutide patent expires in 2032, and the U.S. accounted for more than half of Novo’s overall sales last year. Doustdar said Novo plans to emerge from the loss of exclusivity as a bigger and more diversified company.

Per Hansen, savings economist at Nordnet, said investors had hoped for a short-term project “miracle,” but that “for obvious reasons that miracle does not exist.” Jacob Pedersen, investment strategist at Middelfart Sparekasse, said the announcement lacked the financial ambition investors sought. Novo is expanding beyond obesity and diabetes into blood and endocrine disorders, liver disease and cardiovascular disease, while keeping its core therapy areas as its foundation.
