A Minns Labor government will end the Liberal neglect of the North West’s growing population, with $560 million of investment into road upgrades, including Bandon Road.

The North West Growth Area is expected to grow to around 90,000 households, with 250,000 people, when fully developed. Yet it is being left behind by the Liberal Government.

Labor’s plan – end the delays

After years of neglect and delay from the Liberals, a NSW Labor Government will deliver the much-needed road upgrades promised to communities in the North West Growth Area.

NSW Labor will match the Federal Government’s $75 million investment to finalise the planning and begin initial construction work on Bandon Road.  This connection will provide an important alternate route between Windsor Rd and Richmond Rd that is suitable for heavy vehicles.

The investment is part of Labor’s $1.1bn of new investment in local roads across Western Sydney and regional NSW.

NSW Labor has also committed $485 million towards the widening of Richmond Road and upgrading Garfield Road East:

  • $285 million for planning and early works – to widen to 6 lanes on a 2.2km section between the M7 Motorway and Townson Road and to build a new off-ramp bridge to connect Richmond Road to Westlink M7.
  • $100 million to widen to 4 lanes a section of Richmond Rd – between Elara Boulevard and Heritage Road at Marsden Park.
  • $100 million to upgrade Garfield Road East between Windsor Road, Box Hill and Piccadilly Street, Riverstone.

Under the Liberals – too little too late

After 12 years under the Liberals, families in the fast-growing North West have heard big promises but seen little action.

The first stage of the crucial Bandon Road development should have been delivered by 2022, with the second stage by 2026. Yet under the Liberals, neither have even completed the planning stage.

It took an intervention from the Federal Labor Government – with a $75 million commitment – to get any progress on this vital work.

Quotes attributable to Chris Minns, NSW Labor Leader:

“After years of Liberal delay, it’s time for a change.

“With $75m from the Federal Government and $75m from a State Labor Government, the Bandon Road upgrade is an example of State and Federal Governments working powerfully together to provide real benefits for this community.

“This is all part of Labor’s plan to reinvigorate our local roads so that families have a real alternative to the Liberals’ overpriced, privatised tolls. And unlike the Liberals, we won’tsell off assets like Sydney Water to pay for it.”

Quotes attributable to John Graham, NSW Shadow Minister for Roads:

“The North West Growth Area is expected to grow by 250,000 people when fully developed. It’s time to end the delays and deliver these key roads.

“We’ll end this government’s obsession with toll roads and fix the local roads families use every day.”

Quotes attributable to Warren Kirby, NSW Labor Candidate for Riverstone:

“Labor’s investment in Bandon Road will provide major safety improvements for the residents of Riverstone by giving trucks an option to bypass the Town Centre.

“Anybody who lives in the Riverstone area knows how dysfunctional Richmond Road is.  It’s yet another example of the current Liberal Government under-estimating the needs of this community.

“10 sets of traffic lights within an 8.5km stretch of road and traffic between the M7 junction and Berkshire Park turns Richmond Rd into a carpark every day.
