Arabic version: بيانات الجريمة في الإقليم الشمالي تظهر نتائج متباينة لأجندة حزب «الليبرالي الريفي»
According to ABC News, official Northern Territory crime data shows mixed results two years after the Country Liberal Party government came to power on a tough-on-crime platform. Preliminary figures show property offences fell 15 per cent in the government’s second year, while offences against the person declined 6 per cent.
The territory-wide 12-month figures, however, conceal a rise in offending around the Top End during 2026. In Darwin, property offences have been increasing since October last year and returned to 2024 levels in July and August. More property crimes were recorded in August 2026 than in August 2024, when the CLP was elected.
Crimes against the person, including homicide, assault and robbery, fell during the CLP’s first year. The data indicates those offences have since plateaued in both Darwin and across the Northern Territory. The government did not respond to a request for comment.
Alice Springs has recorded significant reductions in both property crime and offences against the person since the CLP took charge in August 2024. But results differ elsewhere: Katherine is at similar or worse crime levels than two years ago, with the latest NT Police data showing a sharp increase since March. Rural parts of the territory have also remained difficult, with neither category of crime dropping in line with the government’s measures.
