According to Cnbc, the New York Stock Exchange has become the second major exchange to announce extended-hours options trading for heavily traded exchange-traded funds and single stocks. NYSE, which is owned and operated by Intercontinental Exchange, follows CBOE’s announcement that it will introduce extended trading for 25 single stocks and five ETFs.

NYSE’s extended options trading hours begin Monday. The early session will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET, while a late session will run from 4 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET. Twenty-nine major stocks and funds, including Nvidia, Bank of America, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust and the iShares Russell 2000 ETF, will be available for extended trading.

Beginning Dec. 6, 2026, NYSE plans to extend trading in those same names to 23 hours a day, five days a week. Kevin Tyrrell, NYSE’s chief product officer, said extended options trading reflects demand for investment opportunities and reliable risk management over a longer period.

The offering comes as demand grows for derivatives and for instruments that trade around the clock. Crypto was the first asset class to offer continuous trading, while prediction markets and perpetual futures have also adopted 24/7 schedules. CBOE data showed extended-hours trading exceeded 199,000 contracts per day on average, the highest level on record.

Volumes were muted during Monday’s first extended stock-options session. Options on Tesla stood out before its Wednesday earnings, with slightly more than 3,000 contracts traded, almost all calls. SpotGamma data put the total value at less than $100,000.
