According to ABC News, a police officer injured in an alleged stabbing at Elizabeth East in Adelaide’s northern suburbs has been discharged from hospital and will focus on her recovery.

SA Police said on Saturday that the officer, identified as senior constable “Jessie”, was recovering well and would continue to receive full support. Police also thanked SA Ambulance and Royal Adelaide Hospital medical staff involved in her care, and acknowledged messages of support from policing colleagues and the community.

The alleged stabbing occurred on Main North Road at Elizabeth East on Wednesday. SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said a man allegedly rushed at police with a large knife before a male officer shot him in the leg.

Commissioner Stevens said the man continued to charge forward and allegedly stabbed the senior constable in the neck. He praised Jessie and her police partner for displaying “significant courage”.

A 27-year-old Woodville Gardens man appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court by phone on several charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. He was remanded in custody until a further hearing in November. The incident is subject to a major crime investigation and a Police Commissioner’s Inquiry.
