According to ABC News, a South Australian police officer suffered serious injuries after being stabbed in the neck while responding to reports of a man armed with a knife at Elizabeth East in Adelaide’s north. Police said the officer’s injuries were non-life-threatening and that she was taken to hospital.

Police said they were called after reports of a male armed with a knife running onto Main North Road at about 11am. During the confrontation, officers shot a 27-year-old man from Woodville Gardens in the leg. He was also taken to hospital, with injuries police said were not life-threatening.

Acting Assistant Commissioner David O’Donovan said police had responded to an immediate threat posed by an armed individual and described the situation as rapidly dangerous. He said SA Police was providing support to the injured officer, her family and colleagues. Major Crime and internal investigators are examining the circumstances and the exact sequence of events.

Emergency services maintained a large presence at the site, where a section of Main North Road was closed to southbound traffic from Midway Road. Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public and urged witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers. Premier Peter Malinauskas thanked the officer for her bravery and wished her a full and speedy recovery.
