According to Cnbc, Wall Street enters a relatively quiet week for earnings and economic reports after a winning Friday tied to a soft jobs report. Investors are also awaiting the start of third-quarter earnings season after cooler-than-expected inflation data and a September payroll update.

Oil prices and government-bond yields are expected to remain major influences on stock trading. Updates on oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, developments in the broader Middle East and military activity in the region could affect both markets. The Nasdaq Composite touched an intraday record high Friday, while the S&P 500 was about 1% below its mid-August all-time high; its equal-weighted version was almost 6% below its own peak.

Tuesday’s Marvell investor day will be watched for longer-term financial targets. Marvell competes with Broadcom in custom semiconductors and has an optical networking business tied to future Nvidia technology and AI computing. Its comments could influence other AI stocks as investors assess the durability of the AI investment cycle.

Scheduled company reports include Constellation Brands on Tuesday evening, Levi Strauss on Wednesday evening, PepsiCo on Thursday morning and Delta Air Lines on Friday morning. Delta’s outlook may offer information on fuel costs and consumer flying demand. Costco is also scheduled to release September monthly sales on Wednesday evening.

Economic releases include the ISM Services PMI on Monday, Federal Open Market Committee minutes on Wednesday and the preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey on Friday. Economists expected the September Services PMI to reach 55.9, up from 55.4 in the prior month, according to FactSet. New York Fed President John Williams is set to speak Tuesday morning.
