Arabic version: عبّارة قديمة تغلق طريق تشانل السريع قرب سيغنت لفترة وجيزة
According to ABC News, the Channel Highway was completely blocked near Cygnet on Friday after an old ferry became stuck while being transported.
Tasmania Police said the blockage was 5 kilometres south of Cygnet, at Gardners Bay at the intersection of Gospel Hall Road. The Channel Highway is one of the main arterial roads south of Hobart.
Police said there was no alternate route and that heavy equipment was being sourced to remove the boat. The vessel, Emmalisa, was on the back of a trailer.
Emmalisa is a wooden ferry built around 1947 and is currently under restoration. A Facebook page dedicated to the vessel and its restoration is called Emmalisa The Project.
At 1:46pm, police advised that the boat had been removed from the road and traffic was flowing freely again. Police thanked motorists for their patience.
