According to ABC News, Gippsland councillor and One Nation candidate Ben Lucas has pleaded guilty to health code violations connected to his gymnasium businesses.
Lucas, recently named One Nation Victoria’s candidate for Narracan in West Gippsland, pleaded guilty at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Friday to operating a category-one aquatic facility without registration with Baw Baw Shire Council.
The sole director and secretary of Dojo Enterprises was charged with one breach of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. The charge concerned operating an unregistered facility between March 19, 2026, and April 7, 2026. Regulations define a category-one aquatic facility as a swimming pool, spa pool or interactive water feature.
A council investigation found Zen Den Warragul, which offered saunas and ice baths, had operated without aquatic-facility registration in early 2025. Lucas later registered the business and received a penalty infringement notice, but it was relocated to Drouin. A further investigation found Zen Den Drouin was also not registered.
Magistrate Anthony Gywnne fined Lucas $4,000 and placed him on an adjourned undertaking for 12 months, describing it as a “significant penalty”. Lucas, who has served as a Baw Baw Shire councillor since 2020, said he had admitted liability for an “administrative oversight” and was glad the matter was behind him. He did not receive a conviction.
