Arabic version: ون فور وبارنز وموبوي يؤدون أغنية لفيل كولينز
According to ABC News, Western Sydney drill rap group ONEFOUR joined Jimmy Barnes and Jessica Mauboy in triple j’s Like A Version studio for a cover of Phil Collins’s 1981 song In The Air Tonight.
ONEFOUR members J Emz, Celly and Spenny delivered rhymes over the track, while Barnes and Mauboy sang Collins’s melodies. The session also included a guitarist, drummer, producer and backing vocalists.
Barnes said his daughter Mahalia Barnes brought him into the collaboration. He said the artists came from similar backgrounds and “had to fight to get ourselves heard and to have our say,” describing the rehearsal-room connection as immediate.
ONEFOUR emerged from Mount Druitt in 2019 with the viral single The Message. The group faced NSW Police scrutiny and struggled to book and perform gigs before playing its first Sydney headline show in 2025. Celly said bringing together artists from different genres and backgrounds was “definitely a moment there.”
The group also performed its latest single, HIM, which was written after ONEFOUR met Tunku Ismail, the Crown Prince of Johor, when he booked them for a Malaysian performance. J Emz said time spent with the prince inspired the song. Like A Version is available through the triple j app, website and YouTube.
