On January 14th, 2023, the City of Canterbury Bankstown officially opened the doors to the brand new Splash Park located on Acacia Avenue in Greenacre. The event was attended by several notable figures, including Mayor Clr. Khal Asfour, Clr. Bilal El Hayek, Clr. George Zakhia, and Jihad Dib MP for Lakemba. The park boasts a variety of water play equipment for children, including the first 4-dump mega splash bucket.
The event was launched by Master of Ceremony Graeme Beattie, the director of community services in the council of the City of Canterbury Bankstown. Aunty Lynn also spoke about the aboriginal significance of the land. A smoking ceremony was then performed to dispel any negative spirits in the area.
Mayor Clr. Khal Asfour took to the stage to express his gratitude to all those in attendance and encouraged them to spend time with their friends and families in the new splash park. He then officially opened the park by cutting the ribbon and activating the water features.
In addition to the water park, the event also featured a sausage sizzle by Padstow Rotary as well as a coffee and other food vendors. The new Splash Park is a free-entry park and open to the public for all to enjoy. It is a great addition to the community and a perfect spot for families to cool off during the hot summer months. The City of Canterbury Bankstown should be commended for their efforts in bringing this new recreational space to the area.
