Renowned journalist, writer, and multicultural events organiser Syed Atiq Ul Hassan has been awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Premier’s Multicultural Communications Awards. This recognition comes as a testament to his tireless contributions to multiculturalism, media, and community-building in New South Wales over the last three decades.

Syed Atiq Ul Hassan, a long-serving contributor to Oz Arab Media, has established himself as a pioneering figure in promoting cultural diversity through media, events, and journalism. His influence spans various sectors, from launching the first multicultural English newspaper Tribune International in 1997 to founding the Chand Raat Eid Festival (CREF), one of Australia’s largest multicultural events. Through CREF, over 40,000 visitors annually celebrate cultural diversity in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, highlighting his impact on fostering community cohesion through cultural festivities.

In addition to his media and community work, Hassan is a successful management consultant, media analyst, and author. His book Australia For Pakistanis, published in 2003, was a groundbreaking investigation into the history and experiences of Pakistani and Muslim migrants in Australia. He is also the organiser of the first International Halal Exhibition in Australia, Halal Expo Australia, which attracted both national and international exhibitors and showcased the growing Halal market in the country.

Throughout his career, Hassan has been recognised with numerous accolades, including the 2014 NSW Premier Harmony Award, the Auburn Citizen of the Year Award, and the Parramatta Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 2018. These awards, like his latest honour, reflect his sustained efforts to enhance the understanding and celebration of multiculturalism in Australia.

The Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Premier’s Multicultural Communications Awards is a fitting recognition for a man whose work has left an indelible mark on Australia’s multicultural landscape. Syed Atiq Ul Hassan’s unwavering dedication to multiculturalism and his pioneering initiatives have not only enriched the Australian community but have also provided a voice and platform for minority groups to be heard, represented, and celebrated.

Oz Arab Media congratulates Mr. Hassan on his stellar achievement and wishes him ever higher recognitions!
