Parramatta is set to make sporting history as it hosts Sydney’s first AFL and AFLW double-header match open to the public, with the GIANTS becoming the first club to stage both elite men’s and women’s matches on the same day at the same venue.
Fans will be treated to a football feast on Sunday 16 August as the GIANTS and West Coast Eagles go head-to-head in both AFL and AFLW matches, creating a milestone moment for Western Sydney.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said this blockbuster event is another major coup for Parramatta, showcasing the city’s growing reputation as a powerhouse for world-class sport and entertainment.
“As the home of sport and entertainment, Parramatta continues to attract major events that showcase our world-class venues, create vibrant experiences for our community and draw visitors from across the region,” Cr Zaiter said.
“Sporting events like this do more than fill stadiums, they bring more people into our City so they can enjoy everything Parramatta has to offer and help boost our local economy.
“This historic event with the GIANTS is another example of why Parramatta is the destination of choice for elite sport, and we’re excited to welcome fans to our city for this milestone occasion.”
The GIANTS have been pioneers in promoting both men’s and women’s football, becoming the first AFL club to stage an AFL and AFLW double-header for premiership points in 2020. The upcoming fixture will bring that historic concept to Sydney audiences once again, with Parramatta providing the stage.

“ENGIE Stadium houses one of the best game day experiences in the AFL so to extend that to fans across both teams is a leap forward for the game.
