Manchester City have confirmed that manager Pep Guardiola will leave the club after Sunday’s final match of the season against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola’s departure marks the end of a decade-long tenure, during which he led the team to 17 major trophies, including six Premier League titles.

According to BBC News, Guardiola’s exit comes as City prepares for a transition a year before the end of his contract. The confirmation of Guardiola’s exit comes three days after the club were beaten to the 2025-26 Premier League title by Arsenal, marking the Gunners’ first title in 22 years.

In a statement, Guardiola reflected on his time at City, stating, “Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time. Nothing is eternal; if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who worked under Guardiola at City, is currently the frontrunner to take over the managerial position at the club. The announcement of Guardiola’s departure has already sparked discussions among fans and analysts regarding the future direction of Manchester City.
